Curriculum vitae
He was born on 29 August 1948 in Brno. In 1967 he finished high school in Straznice and to get a "working class origin" he worked in a machine factory in Gottwaldov (today Zlin) for a year. Then he was admitted to enter the Ss Cyril and Methodius' Faculty of Theology in Olomouc. He was ordained a priest on 23 June 1973 and served in Zlin, Valasske Klobouky, from 1982 he was a parish priest in Vizovice, Provodov and Horni Lhota.
On 17 March 1990, he was appointed titular bishop of Tagaria and auxiliary bishop of Olomouc and metropolitan of Moravia. On 7 April he was ordained bishop. On 28 September 1992, he was appointed archbishop of Olomouc. In 2000-2010 he was a president of the Czech Bishops' Conference, responsible for Public Affairs and for Charity and Mission.
