Sisters from Haiti Visiting Olomouc

Humanitarian Mission of the Archdiocesan Charity Olomouc (ACHO) visited on 24 Jan – 3 Feb 2007 Haiti. Director of ACHO Vaclav Keprt and Pavel Novacek of the Olomouc Region came back on Saturday 3 Feb and took with them religious sisters Roseline Dorvil and Sandrale Thomas from Baie de Henne, Haiti, who will stay in Olomouc for a week.CZECH

Olomouc: Director of ACHO Vaclav Keprt said they had wanted to see how the help to this poor country is successful, to sign an agreement with the congregation of Oblates to enlarge the Adopce na dalku ('Distance Adoption') project.

Pavel Novacek made his 3rd visit to Haiti: 'Compared to the beginning, we have seen some progress.' The new school has been built for some 250 children, new solar-powered well also works and gives to the people the most important thing – water. A canteen for children is in construction.

Adopce na dalku is very popular – Sr Jana Lukacova, leader of the project, said 156 'adoptive parents' take part and support 143 children from Baie de Henne, Haiti. After the agreement with the Oblates, some 1,000 children could be added in the Adoption.

Director Keprt says the most important is that all the community involves in the building. 'We consider starting a new project, 'Give Lodging for People', because they live in poor huts and in the raining season they have no place to live.'

Children are being educated and it's time to think of their further possibilities. 'We also consider some skills development, to motivate people and offer them possibilities to earn their living,' says Vaclav Keprt, 'for example sewing workshop for women, fishing activities for men.'

The third member of the mission, cameraman Martin Strouhal, will come back with Rev Frantisek Elias and Jiri Latal from Zabreh na Morave, who leave for Haiti at these days.
