On Monday June 14, 2010 in the late afternoon, auxiliary bishop emeritus of Prague Mons. Jaroslav Škarvada died in Prague at the age of almost 86 years.
Prague (CZ): The funeral mass will be celebrated in the cathedral of Ss. Vitus, Wenceslas and Adalbert on Monday June 21, 2010 at 9.30 am.
The body of the deceased bishop will be buried in the vicars' tomb at the cemetery in Prague – Břevnov on the same day at 11.30 am.
Bishop Škarvada was often called as the 'incorrigible optimist', whose very good humour captured all people around him. He was born in Prague on September 14, 1924. On March 12, 1949 he was ordained priest in Rome and he was appointed bishop on January 6, 1983 in Rome as well. After the Velvet Revolution he returned to the Czech Republic.
