In connection with this year World Mission Sunday (October 24, 2010) we bring some information that though in the Czech Republic just a minority of inhabitants declares oneself to the Catholic faith, collections and alms for Pontifical Mission Societies rate the Czech Republic in two of three Mission Societies among the first ten countries in Europe.

Špindlerův Mlýn (CZ): Pontifical Mission Societies revived their activities in the Czech Republic in the year 1993. During Communism their activities were forbidden. It is good to pay attention to the fact that, though in the Czech Republic just a minority of inhabitants declares oneself to the Catholic faith, collections and alms for Pontifical Mission Societies rate the Czech Republic in two of three Mission Societies among the first ten countries in Europe.

As for the alms on sponsorships of seminarians in mission areas Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle the Czech Republic is on the 14th place. On World Mission Sunday during which in the framework of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith financial means on the support of the basic world missionary activities of the church are collected, our country gets on the 10th place thanks to the amount of collections. Within the support of the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood the Czech Republic is on the 8th place. In as much as that Society of the Holy Childhood celebrates this year the 10th year anniversary since the re-establishment of its activities in the Czech Republic, the placing among the first ten countries in Europe is a very good sign.

The listed facts prove the interest of Czech people in the support of pontifical missions and in the help of the people in need in the world. We are ranked among those countries, whose systematic missionary work answers to the problems in the mission areas in the important way.

Pontifical Mission Societies in the Czech Republic have prepared a new audio-video clip, which should help for the good preparation for the World Mission Sunday 2010 (October 24). It can be used in the parishes, schools, communities and families during the mission month of October and during the whole year. It has been distributed around all national offices of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the whole world and positive echoes pricing this type of mission propagation have come from India, Belgium, England, Scotland, Guinea and New Zealand.

Pontifical Mission Societies thank to all, who support the missionary activities in any way.
