Msgr. Tomáš Holub is the New Secretary General of CBC
Msgr. ThLic Tomáš Holub, Th.D. was born on August 16, 1967 to a faithful family in Červený Kostelec near Náchod. He graduated from the Prague Archbishopric Seminary and was ordained priest in Hradec Králové by Bishop Karel Otčenášek on August 28, 1993.
His first place of work was Kutná Hora between 1993 and 1996, where he served as chaplain and as the spiritual of St. Ursula Church Grammar School.
He then joined the Army of the Czech Republic as its first chaplain and wokred there between 1996 and 2006, first in the IFOR units in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then as the army chaplain of the Rapid Deployment Brigade in Havlíčkův Brod and later as the chief chaplain of the Czech Army. Since 2006, he has been also active as the Defence Minister’s advisor.
He went on a study stay to the Lateran University in Rome in 2007-2008 and earned a doctorate in theology at the Theological Faculty of Charles University, Prague. His field of study is Christian ethics and the title of his disertation was "Ethical Aspects of War on Terrorism in the Light of the Teaching About So-Called Just War" (a non-official English title, editor's note).
He was appointed as the Moderator of the Curia in the Diocese of Hradec Králové since March 1, 2008, and along with Msgr. Josef Socha, he was carrying out the service of Vicar General in the Diocese since December 1, 2008 until 2010. After Bishop Vokál took over the Diocese in spring 2011, Msgr. Holub became his chief advisor. He is to take over the office of Secretary General of the CBC on July 1, 2011.
Msgr. Holub is also active in Christian youth leadership in the so-called JUMP courses, he lectures under the Czech Christian Academy and Czech Charisma Renewal and he takes part in contemplative courses for the youth and married couples who he accompanies in pastoration. He is fluent in English, German and Italian.
