Bishops of the Czech Republic will gather at plenary meeting

Second plenary meeting of the Czech Bishops’ Conference this year, and at the same time 89th plenary since the creation of the conference, will take place on April 23–25, 2012 at the hotel “Erlebachova bouda” near Špindlerův Mlýn, Krkonoše.

Špindlerův Mlýn: During their plenary meeting, bishops of the Czech Republic will discuss current situation concerning the property settlement between State and Churches. They will speak about the Caritas Czech Republic and the Catholic Biblical Works and will also discuss names of people proposed for honorary awards of the Czech Bishops’ Conference – the Order of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, and the Memorial Medal of the Czech Bishops’ Conference.

On Tuesday, Apr 24, at 6.00 p.m., the bishops will celebrate the mass at the St. Peter’s church in Špindlerův Mlýn, at the same time remembering the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Pontifical Missionary Works in the Czech lands – Špindlerův Mlýn is the seat of the Pontifical Missionary Works in the Czech Republic.

President of the Czech Bishops’ Conference and Archbishop of Prague, Cardinal Dominik Duka, will familiarize the conference’s members with the situation of the Church in the society, and Archbishop Jan Graubner of Olomouc, vice-president of the Czech Bishops’ Conference, will speak about the preparations for 2013, the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Ss. Cyril and Methodius to Great Moravia. Bishops will also hear information on pilgrimage with the relics of St. John Bosco, the event will be held in the Czech Republic in 2013.
