Delegates of the Bishops´ Conferences of the European countries met in Prague from the 1st to 4th September 2019. It was a German-speaking sub-group of the CCEE (Council of European Bishops' Conferences), whose members are dedicated to the media in their countries.

Charles Balvo appointed new nuncio to the Czech Republic
The Press Office of the Holy See has announced today (21 Sept. 2018) that Pope Francis appointed a new apostolic nuncio to the Czech Republic – Msgr. Charles Daniel Balvo, an American who had already served at the Prague nunciature.

Bishops’ plenary: Church should find her place in society
On 6–7 July 2018, the 114th plenary meeting of the Czech Bishops’ Conference – representatives of both Roman and Greek Catholic Churches as well as religious orders – took place in Velehrad, a South Moravian place of pilgrimage linked with the mission of Sts. Cyril and Methodius.

Pilgrims in Velehrad said “Yes” to God and Our Lady
More than 30 thousand people and through them the entire nation renewed today (5 July 2018) their consecration to God through Mary. The solemn mass in Velehrad, celebrated by some twenty bishops, marked the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius and recalled the centenary of Czechoslovakia as well.

Welcome home, Cardinal Beran!
After 49 years, the will of a significant person of the 20th century, prisoner of two totalitarian regimes and a man who always stood on the right side, has been fulfilled. Remains of Cardinal Josef Beran were welcome in Prague yesterday and transferred to the cathedral this morning; the solemn mass in commemoration of St. Adalbert was celebrated afterwards.

Bishops met at their 112th plenary in Prague
On Jan. 23 – 24, 2018, the 112th plenary meeting of the Czech Bishops’ Conference took place at the Prague Archbishopric. The event was preceded by an ecumenical prayer on Monday evening.

New Auxiliary Bishop for the Prague Archdiocese
Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Zdenek Wasserbauer, current vicar general of the Archdiocese Prague, the new auxiliary bishop for the archdiocese. The appointment has been announced today, Jan. 23, 2018, during the 112th plenary meeting of the Czech Bishops’ Conference, by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza.

Two auxiliary bishops were ordained in Olomouc
Antonín Basler and Josef Nuzík are new auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of Olomouc. Having been appointed by Pope Francis in early July this year, they were ordained on Oct. 14, 2017, in the cathedral of St. Wenceslaus by Archbishop Jan Graubner.

Czech Catholics help to those affected by Hurricane Harvey
Representatives of the Czech Catholic Church decided to help people in the areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey. They offered the sum of USD 24,000 to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston as a help for people affected by the disaster.

Bishops supported the Catholics of China
The Czech Bishops' Conference has supported an initiative for the release and to get current information in the case of Chinese Bishop Peter Shao Zhumin; at the same time, the Czech bishops appreciated the efforts of Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-kiun aimed at improvement of the situation of the Chinese Catholics. Two auxiliary bishops appointed for Olomouc
During the celebration of the National Pilgrimage to Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Velehrad on July 5, 2017, the names of two new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of Olomouc were announced. Pope Francis appointed to the office Father Antonín Basler, chancellor of the diocese, and Msgr. Josef Nuzík, vicar general.

The Shining Church Night
This, already ninth year will offer a varied cultural and spiritual program organized by thousands of volunteers from different parishes. “Almost three thousand churches will open just in Prague and central Bohemia,” Michal Němeček, director of the Prague Archbishopric Pastoral centre says and ads that the interest in the Church Night is immense: Last year we noted around 130 thousand visitor entrances in central Bohemia, in the entire Czech republic about half million incomings.
