Mons. Vlastimil Kročil
He was born on 10th May 1961 in Brno and was raised in a Christian family. Having passed the high-school graduation exam in 1986, he applied for admission to the priestly seminary in Litoměřice for three times and – having been rejected – decided to emigrate.
He studied theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and was ordained priest on 16th July 1994 in České Budějovice. He then received licentiate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and started to teach Patristic Literature and Spirituality at the Faculty of Theology of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice in 1996. Simultaneously he served as a parish vicar in České Budějovice and later in Jindřichův Hradec, in 1997 he was appointed administrator of Veselí nad Lužnicí and surrounding parishes.
In 2008 he received doctorate at the Catholic University in Ružomberok, Slovakia and besides his ordinary pastoral care he also offered spiritual accompaniment for members of the “Apostolate of Fatima” and the “Neocatechumenal Way”. Since 2008 he was a member of the diocesan College of Consultors. In 2011 he was appointed vicar of the Tábor vicariate and in 2012 he was appointed residential canon of the Cathedral Chapter of St. Nicholas in České Budějovice.
On 19th March 2015, Pope Francis appointed him diocesan bishop of České Budějovice. He received Episcopal ordination on 13th June 2015 in the cathedral of St. Nicholas.
