Mons. Vojtěch Cikrle
He was born on 20 August 1946 in Bosonohy (today part of Brno). As he came from a communist-persecuted family, he was not admitted to studies and was taught to be an iron-founder. Later he finished evening school for workers. He worked in several industry factories and also at the construction on Prague-Brno highway.
In 1969-1971 he did his compulsory military service. In 1971 he entered the Ss Cyril and Methodius' Theological Faculty in Litomerice. He was ordained priest on 27 June 1976 at the cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul in Brno.
From 1976 to 1982, he worked in several parishes in the diocese of Brno (Jaromerice nad Rokytnou, Jihlava, Znojmo, Slavkov u Brna – Austerlitz, Velke Nemcice, Starovice).
In 1982-1990, he was a prefect and later rector of the seminary in Litomerice. On 14 February 1990 he was appointed 13th bishop of Brno, a see that had been vacant for 18 years. He was ordained on 31 March 1990 by Archbishop Frantisek Vanak of Olomouc.
From 1990, he is a member of the Czech Bishops' Conference with responsibility for Armed Forces Pastoral Care, Family, and Clergy. He likes listening to music and doing sports, he is interested in astronomy.
