Mons. Karel Herbst
He was born on 6 November 1943 in Prague. He was taught to be an electrician of engines and worked in the depot Prague-Central Station. He attended an evening grammar school. In 1968-1973 he studied the Ss Cyril and Methodius' Theological Faculty in Litomerice, on 23 June 1973 he was ordained a priest. He served in Marianske Lazne (1973-1974) and the place of pilgrimage Svata Hora u Pribrami (1974-1975). Without the "State Approval of the Priestly Service", he worked as window-cleaner in 1975-1986.
On 11 September 1976 he took his perpetual vows with the Salesians. Until 1986 he worked with the youth, especially at secret spiritual meetings. When admitted to do the priestly service again, he administered Stare Sedliste and Vsetaty in 1986-1989.
In 1990 he was appointed director of the Salesian centre in Prague-Kobylisy. In 1997-2000 he was a spiritual of the Archbishop's Seminary in Prague-Dejvice. From 2000 to 2002 he administered the Salesian community in Frystak. On 19 February 2002 he was appointed titular bishop of Siccesi and auxiliary bishop of Prague; he was ordained on 6 April 2002.
