Curriculum vitae

Martin David was born on August 15, 1970 in Čeladná (Frýdek-Místek district) and grew up in the village of Ženklava (Nový Jičín district) in a family together with his three siblings – a brother and two sisters. He started to work as a mechanic of machinery and equipment at the Tatra Kopřivnice State Enterprise after graduating from the Technical High School of Mechanical Engineering in Kopřivnice. He completed compulsory military service in 1989–1990 and after that worked in Tatra Kopřivnice until 1993.

In 1991 he started the distance study of theology at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology of the Palacký University in Olomouc and since 1994 he continued in his theological studies full-time. As a deacon he was appointed prefect in the Preparatory College of Theology in Litoměřice. He was ordained priest by Bishop František Václav Lobkowicz in the Cathedral of the Divine Savior in Ostrava on June 24, 2000.

He was assigned to the parish at the co-cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Opava as a parish vicar. He was appointed administrator of the Stěbořice parish and excurrendo administrator of the Hlavnice parish in 2002. He also served as a chaplain for youth in the Opava deanery from 2000 to 2007.

He was appointed vicar general of the Ostrava-Opava diocese by Bishop František Václav Lobkowicz in 2008. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Commission for Liturgy in the Ostrava-Opava diocese and at the same time he represents the diocese at the Commission for Liturgy of the Czech Bishops’ Conference. Pope Benedict XVI awarded Martin David the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness on January 12, 2012.

Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Martin David auxiliary bishop of Ostrava-Opava and titular bishop of Thucca in Numidia on Friday, April 7, 2017.

He was ordained bishop on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Bishop František Václav Lobkowicz was a chief consecrator, archbishop of Olomouc Jan Graubner and bishop of Brno Vojtěch Cikrle were co-consecrators.
