Mons. ThDr. Petr Esterka

He was born on 14 November 1935 in Dolni Bojanovice. On 15 June 1957 he fled to Austria and in September he entered the Pontifical College Nepomucenum in Rome. On 9 March 1963 he was ordained priest and sent to serve Czechs abroad, in the diocese of St Antonio, Texas, USA.
In 1967, he graduated with a Doctor's degree in Theology in Rome and after going back to the USA he started his academic career. In 1974-1995 he served in the US Air Force, from 1978 he dedicated himself to the work among Czechs in the USA and Canada, from 1986 he was appointed bishops' delegate. From 1994, he also served in Australia.
In 1987, he was named Monsignor and in 1992 he was appointed honorary prelate. On 5 July 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Cefala and auxiliary bishop of Brno.
