Life of Pavel Konzbul, the Auxiliary Bishop of Brno
Pavel Konzbul was born on 17 October 1965 in Brno-Juliánov, where his mother Marie still lives. After finishing at the grammar school in Křenová, Brno he studied electrotechnology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Brno University of Technology. He graduated in 1989.
Having completed one year´s basic military training, he took up the post of a specialist and later a researcher at the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences. There he worked on the development and implementation of corrective coils of magnetic fields for nuclear magnetic resonance tomography. He published articles in scientific journals and worked as a contract teacher at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Brno University of Technology, where he successfully defended his doctoral thesis on electromagnetic field theory.
In 1995 Pavel Konzbul joined the lay association of St. Dominic and served as a vice-superior of the national province in Prague. In the same year he began his theological studies at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology at Palacký University in Olomouc. He graduated in 2000 and since then he has also been a member of the Church Law Society.
In 2003 he was ordained as a priest by the Diocese Bishop of Brno, Vojtěch Cikrle, at St. Peter and Paul´s Cathedral, and spent two years as a parish vicar at Boskovice, Svitávka, Hustopeče u Brna, Starovičky and administrator excurrendo at Starovice. In 2005 he was appointed as a spiritual director of the episcopal grammar school, Biskupské gymnázium Brno. In 2013 he received his parish priest appointment to the cathedral parish and became a member of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Brno.
He is a contract teacher of Christian Education at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University in Brno. He also cooperates with the Brno publishing house Cesta, which has published eight of his mainly homiletic and educational books, Naslouchání (Lending an Ear), Jak mluvit s dospívajícími o víře (How to speak about faith with adolescents…).
Pavel Konzbul is involved in activities of the Centre for Family and Social Care in Brno and he also leads spiritual meetings at the Spiritual Centre of St. Francis of Paola. He regularly contributes articles for the blog of the Czech quality newspaper Lidové noviny.
In October 2015 he was appointed as the Third Canon of the Royal Cathedral Chapter of Sts Peter and Paul in Brno by Vojtěch Cikrle, the Bishop of Brno.
On Saturday 21 May 2016 Pope Francis appointed Pavel Konzbul as the Auxiliary Bishop of Brno and the Titular Bishop of Litomyšl. He was ordained as the bishop at St. Peter and Paul´s Cathedral in Brno on 29 June 2016, on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the diocese.

More than 30 thousand people and through them the entire nation renewed today (5 July 2018) their consecration to God through Mary. The solemn mass in Velehrad, celebrated by some twenty bishops, marked the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius and recalled the centenary of Czechoslovakia as well.
