Mons. ThLic. Tomáš Holub Th.D.
Mons. ThLic. Tomáš Holub, ThD. was born on 16th August 1967 in Jaroměř, Hradec Králové Region, and comes from the parish Červený Kostelec, Diocese of Hradec Králové. He was ordained priest on 28th August 1993 in Hradec Králové.
He studied philosophy and theology at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Theological Faculty in Litoměřice (1985–1989), theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Salzburg, Austria (1990–1991), master’s degree in theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Charles University in Prague (1993), further studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (2007–2008) and the Institut für Theologie und Frieden in Hamburg (2005–2008), and doctor’s degree in moral theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Charles University in Prague, where he defended his thesis in Christian ethics on “Ethical Aspects of the War on Terror in the Light of the Teaching on the so-called Just War”.
He served in these positions: parish vicar in Kutná Hora and the spiritual advisor at the local Church Grammar School of St. Ursula (1993–1996), first military chaplain and later chief chaplain in the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic (1996–2006), vicar general of the Diocese of Hradec Králové (2008–2010), dean of the Collegiate Chapter in Vyšehrad (2011-2016), a parish priest of the basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul (2015-2016); since 1st July 2011 he has been appointed general secretary of the Czech Bishops’ Conference; since 2006 he is an advisor of the defense minister for the spiritual service. On 14th July 2003 he was appointed Chaplain of His Holiness. Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Pilsen on 12th February 2016. His bishop ordination was on 30th April in Pilsen.
