    Born on Feb. 16, 1956, in Šumperk, Msgr. Antonín Basler was raised in a nearby village Olšany in a family together with his three older sisters. He studied a high school of railway engineering in Šumperk in 1971–1975 and worked at the Czechoslovak State Railways, in the meantime he went through a compulsory military service.

    In 1979 he started studying at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology in Litoměřice and was ordained a priest in Olomouc in 1984 by Bishop Josef Vrana. Until 1990 he was a parish vicar in Luhačovice, from 1990 to 1999 he served as a parish priest in Vizovice, in 1993 he was appointed a dean of the Vizovice deanery and from 1999 until July 1, 2017, he served as a parish priest at St. Michael’s in Olomouc.

    In 2000 he was appointed a chancellor of the Archdiocese of Olomouc. He is a canon of the Metropolitan Chapter of St. Wenceslaus in Olomouc and on July 1, 2017, he was appointed a member of the diocesan commission for liturgy and its subcommission for the sacred arts. On Oct. 1, 2017, he was appointed vicar general of the archdiocese, holding the office together with Auxiliary Bishop Josef Nuzík.
